A project for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, we were tasked with design and implementation of interior improvements to the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory. Based out of a historic army barracks building in the Marin Headlands, the The observatory is the oldest running program at the Conservancy and is responsible for tracking migration of birds of prey and other research. As a center for community based research, the building needed improvements to address the hundreds of annual volunteers as well as improve conditions for the full time staff members that support the program.
The design logically reorganized disparate programmatic elements on the first floor, as well as began to address ADA and hazardous materials compliance. The 2nd floor was designed to more clearly delineate a row of offices and add a much needed kitchenette and break area.
Lead containing paint was discovered on the floors so abatement and refinishing was added to the scope.
Other improvements included new furnishings, new paint, upgraded bathroom flooring, and modifications to the lighting.
